After having my first child, as any new mother, I was elated at all the gifts I received for my little angel. Baby grows, frilly dresses, cuddly toys-pink took over my world. It was only when one of my good friends (who already had children!) gave me a gift too-a beautiful basket full of bath products and pampering goodies just for me that I thought what a marvellous idea. From then on whenever my friends had their own babies, I always tried to make sure that the gifts were for both the new arrival and the person that had done all the hard work!
At the beginning of last year, several of my friends became pregnant at roughly the same time (something in the water I guess!!), so I decided to shop around for gift baskets. After many hours of searching, I noticed two things. Firstly considering I had several friends to buy for, gift baskets starting in the £50 plus range were not going to cut it-we were in a recession after all! Secondly the items that these baskets contained for the new mums - nail polishes, lipsticks and mascara. Speaking as a mother of two beautiful girls, these items were to me, a little ambitious. Afterall, I was lucky if I made it out of my dressing gown in those first few weeks, let alone found time to put my face on!!
Well, the rest as they say is history. I decided (with my arts and craft head on) that I would have a go at making up some gift baskets of my own. I found it was something I really enjoyed doing and the feedback I received from my friends & family was great. Not only that, but several of their friends saw the baskets, loved the idea, and the orders started to come in and MIA MAMI was born.
Nappy cakes, sock muffins & bib rosebuds soon followed, and we now have a wide array of stunning gifts for that special person.
